There are tons of different Brussels chocolate shops, and Brussels chocolate tours around the city to experience. But the Choco Story Brussels Chocolate Museum really brings the best of all things chocolate right to you to fully experience Brussels with kids! 

One of the things that most appealed to me about visiting Choco Story was that they offered fantastic choices for Brussels Chocolate Tours. You could do a self-guided tour, tour with demonstration, or even take a fun chocolate making class Brussels style!

We opted to do the self-guided tour, since it was the more affordable option for our Brussels with kids vacation budget. However, after visiting, I absolutely plan to do the full chocolate making experience next time we go!

There are generally TWO options for getting tickets to the Choco Story Brussels Chocolate Museum:

The first option is the general, self-guided museum. You can get your Choco Story tickets in advance here to skip the lines and enjoy the museum at your own pace. You can plan for about an hour to 1.5 hours to visit. This includes the chocolate making demonstration and tasting.

The other option is the full museum PLUS a chocolate making workshop. There is a limited number of these tickets available, so you can check out the availability of the chocolate making workshop + museum entrance tickets here. This option takes around 2.5 hours for the full experience.

When deciding which Choco Story ticket is best, I would consider the option that is best for your family travel budget and for the amount of time you have to spend. 

If you’re crunched for time, for example, you can spend 45-60 minutes of so browsing through the Choco Story Brussels Chocolate Museum portion. Just skip over some of the more interactive activities if you need to save time.

You’ll still get a GREAT taste of chocolate’s history this way. No matter what option you choose, you’ll definitely get to experience one of the best Brussels chocolate tours around! 

They do keep visitors limited so everyone can enjoy the museum to its fullest, however. So you’ll want to grab your tickets ahead of time to be sure they are available, regardless of the option you prefer. I usually opt to get my tickets through GetYourGuide, because prices are often lower AND they have GREAT flexibility/cancellation options. (Which, if you’re like us and tend to get sick kiddos on vacation quite often, is super handy!)

Choco Story’s Self-Guided Brussels Chocolate Tours

Like I said a second ago, we opted for the general admission, self-guided Brussels Chocolate tour. This was perfect for our family, because they had little audio guides which allowed us to hear the history and several fun facts about chocolate. 

You’ll be given a small, hand-held device to hear the story as you progress through various rooms of the Choco Story Brussels Chocolate Museum. This was a lot of fun for our kids, especially the smaller ones! They felt super cool scanning the different areas and listening to the story.

Learning About Brussels Best Chocolate 

There are a lot of different artifacts related to the making and eating of chocolate throughout history on display in the Choco Story museum.

From interestingly designed drinking cups to ancient bean-grinding basins, you’ll get to see the full wondrous process before your eyes! 

You don’t just learn about the history of Brussels best chocolate, but you’ll learn about where chocolate was first discovered. You’ll see the evolution of the chocolate bean, and how different cultures used chocolate throughout time.

Exploring all of the different historical pieces definitely put the museum at the top of our list of fun things to do in Brussels with kids. Everything was set up in a way where the kids were truly interested and immersed in the story as the history unfolded.

Interactive Activities At The Choco Story Brussels Chocolate Museum 

Another reason that Choco Story’s Brussels chocolate tours topped our list of fun things to do in Brussels with kids was the INTERACTIVE elements all throughout the museum.

We were so surprised at all of the ways they made the entire experience FUN and EXCITING for our kids. Our teenagers and preschoolers alike were having a good time, and I was in mom heaven!

Right when entering the museum, you step into ancient MesoAmerica with colorful decor and ancient ‘temple’ like props. Our kids had fun being ‘eaten’ by the giant snake!

There were also a lot of little games throughout the museum to get them to absorb the material being discussed. (Yay for teaching history while tasting chocolate… am I right?!)

In one part of Choco Story, there was even a chocolate grinding game! Our kids especially loved competing to grind the chocolate beans! I was surprised at how well the museum did at making sure that families with kids of all ages would enjoy the experience. Even though we had a big age gap from youngest to oldest, nobody got bored or complained.

As you make your way through the Brussels chocolate museum, there’s also a really cute photo area, where the kids could put on little props and stand in front of a green screen. The resulting photo would add a chocolate making class scene or even an old fashioned ship with chocolate barrels aboard!

Needless to say, we spent quite a bit of time having a fun little photoshoot. Our older kids had fun helping the little ones with the props and then showing them the results.

Our kids still talk about this being one of the funner Brussels family activities from our trip! (And bonus score- it’s also one of the best indoor activities Brussels has to offer as well!)

Brussels Chocolate Tours & Demonstration

I’ve already talked about the self-guided audio tour, which was super fun. But if you have more time to explore, the Choco Store Brussels chocolate tours also have a fun chocolate making demonstration! You can watch as a professional chocolatier creates a delicious masterpiece. It’s already included in your general ticket, you just need to stop to watch the chocolatey goodness.

The demonstration portion of the tour is such a fun way to experience Brussels with kids! It reminded me of when I was younger and you could watch the candy makers at old-fashioned candy stores. (Taffy making was always my favorite! LOL!)

And don’t worry, they don’t just make you stand and watch as your mouth waters! There are places throughout the museum where you’ll get to taste different chocolate samples, too! Not only will you try Brussels best chocolate, but there’s different darknesses and regional chocolates too!

In fact, the chocolate tasting helped secure this experience as one of our all-time favorite family activities- second only to the fun food tour we took in NYC!

Choco Story’s Chocolate Making Class (Brussels)

The final, ultimate experience option, is to add a chocolate making class to your ticket. Not only is this one of the most magically fun things to do in Brussels with kids, but it’s fun for us adults, too! (And who doesn’t love chocolate?) 

You’ll get to create, first hand, some of the best chocolate Brussels has. And, of course, you’ll get to eat it afterwards! They really thought of everything to make this Brussels best chocolate experience.

All of our children had a total blast and even our youngest (who was 4) still remembers digging into the bowls of tasting chocolate. LOL!!!
